Insights from a recruiter to help you stand out from the crowd

Your resume, cover letter and LinkedIn profile are your first opportunity to shine with an employer or recruiter. How do you make sure you stand out from the crowd in the current market?

Earlier this week I interviewed Amie from AD Connects to get a recruiter’s perspective on the job market right now.

During our interview Amie covered how she finds candidates, what holds people back from getting through the initial shortlist and how the market has changed since March this year.

Amie gave some great insights, my favourites being:

  • Make sure your LinkedIn profile is current and complete – many recruiters and employers connect and hire candidates directly from LinkedIn
  • Recruiters may not always advertise a job – it’s a great idea to connect with a recruitment agency so they can get to know you and do some of the hard yards and job searching for you!
  • The format, content and flow of your resume and cover letter are so important. You have a short window to really sell yourself here and if you can’t communicate how amazing you are, you will get overlooked. There are many companies like AD Connects that can help you if you need it.
